CALL FOR BUSKERS! The City of Mississauga is launching a Busking Pilot Project this summer and we are looking for talented performers to be a part of it! SaugaBusks will run from June to September. Locations across the city have been identified to become “Busk Stops” at specific times and on specific dates. Buskers will be accompanied by City staff who will be surveying passers-by about how they feel about busking. At this time, we are looking primarily for musicians and visual artists. For this pilot, artists will be paid by the City $25/hour and will be able to take voluntary donations from the public. Craftadian will be hosting it’s second Etsy Made in Canada Market. This year, we are hosting the Mississauga Market (inconjuntion with the Craftadian Fall Show). The Etsy Made in Canada Market will feature 90+ Etsy Sellers PLUS the Craftadian section will feature an additional 90 artisans. Applications for the Etsy MIC close June 24th. In 34 cities, Etsy artisans will sell their handmade wares and vintage goods to local buyers at these markets, each of which will represent the spirit of the local community. The Salt Spring Arts Council Announces The Launch Of The Artist in Residence (AiR) Program. The Artist in Residence (AiR) Program provides an opportunity for artists to work in the vibrant arts environment of Salt Spring Island. The program is open to all professionals working in the arts, in any genre or medium, at any stage of their careers. AiR encourages applications from artists of diverse cultural and regional backgrounds. The intent is to provide the time and space for creativity and productivity and to introduce visiting artists to Salt Spring Island and its arts community. Residencies will be awarded based on available facilities, potential links to the Salt Spring community, collaborative opportunities and artistic merit. Applications for the AiR program can be submitted before April 15th and the first artist residencies on Salt Spring Island will take place between October 2016 and April 2017.
