The Mississauga Arts Council is proud to announce its partnership with Starbucks Streetsville on an art exhibit. Applications will be accepted until August 26th. India Rainbow is planning a silent auction as part of their Fundraiser Gala on Aug. 28th, at the Pearson Convention Centre, and would be delighted to showcase the talent of local community artists as items for bidding at the silent auction which would help raise funds at the Gala.  The silent auction is being managed by a professional company – The Silent Auction Company who specializes in such events. The artist can quote a reserve bid price for their work, and anything raised above the bid price will go as a donation to India Rainbow.  The reserve bid will help set a standard for artist’s work.  For more details interested artists can contact Yasmin@mississaugaartscouncil.com. 

The Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, the Professional Photographers of Canada, and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection are holding a photography contest to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Ontario’s Greenbelt!  Take your camera-either traditional or your mobile phone’s- and snap photos of the diverse people, scenic places and irreplaceable wildlife of the nearly two million acres of the world’s largest permanently protected Greenbelt.  Submit your phots online at greenbelt.ca for a chance to have your entry exhibited at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, home to artwork of some of Canada’s most well-known artist, and to be taken on tour across the Greenbelt in early 2016. Call for Expressions of Interest Ontario Culture Days Youth Arts Ambassador Program (YAAP) Ontario Culture Days is now accepting expressions of interest from young and emerging, community-engaged artists working in any artistic discipline in all regions of Ontario to participate in the inaugural Youth Arts Ambassador Program(Pilot Project 2016-2018).  Deadline to apply is Sept.10, 2015

Urjo Kareda Residency Grant for an emerging Theatre Artist: Deadline, Monday, October 5th, 2015. The Urjo Kareda Residency Grant supports the training and artistic residency of an exceptional emerging theatre artist each season at Tarragon Theatre.  The successful applicant will spend twenty weeks at Tarragon Theatre pursuing their own training and artistic goals by working in collaboration with professional artists in their chosen field(s) of interest.  The grant is valued at $15,000 and made possible by an annual donation from the Youssef-Warren Foundation.  See full eligibility and application process here.

Sirius Theatrical Company is looking for volunteers for My Lakeshore – My Home, a multi-generational, multi-cultural,  multi-disciplinary festival that will celebrate the cultures, languages and creativity of the people who call Etobicoke their ‘home’.  It will be created by, and feature, local residents of all ages and backgrounds.  As the audience follows the action along Lake Shore Blvd. W. from Mimico to New Toronto, performance pieces will “pop up” in the most unexpected places. All aspects of the festival are inclusive and open to everyone. We require volunteers to guide patrons through the walking tour, front of house volunteers, information guides, and backstage helpers. Dixie Bloor is hosting their Volunteer Appreciation Awards on September 29, 2015, 5:30pm-8:30pm at Applewoods Heights Secondary School. The event is being held for previous volunteers who have given their time to Dixie Bloor Neighborhood Centre. They are looking for an artist or artists to perform an instrument such as the guitar, saxophone, piano or sing. There is no restrictions on the type of performer we have. This performance will range for 10-15 minutes. Unfortunately since we are a non-profit organization there will be no payment for the performance but there will be food provided. Must bring own amplification equipment, stage with power available.  Please contact Alana.

#SaugaSeries, an InstaMeet event that the AGM and the Living Arts Centre are hosting. We’re looking to invite local photographers and Instagram lovers to join us for tours of the various arts and cultural sites surrounding Civic Centre and Square One. We will also be giving away prizes to the photographs selected by our jury which includes having your work shown in the Live Restaurant for sale at the Living Arts Centre, a photography course at the LAC, or an AGM Membership. The event will take place from 1-4 pm on August 22.

Diaspora Dialogues is excited to announce an open call for our 2015-16 Long-Form mentorship program, focusing on the creation of long-form manuscripts and offering emerging writers an in-depth opportunity to hone their craft and prepare a book-length project for publication. Diaspora Dialogues invites submissions from emerging writers who currently have a full or near-full draft of an original full-length novel, or collection of short stories, or collection of poems. Please note that we do not accept works intended for children or young adults. Full or near-full draft means that the writer has up to 85,000 words or 300 double-spaced pages of prose; or up to 25 poems (50 pages maximum).

This innovative new program is designed to build confidence and foster well-being in older adults. Call for MAC Ambassadors! The Mississauga Arts Council is looking for arts and culture lovers to spread their enthusiasm across the city while also promoting MAC and Limelight through our Ambassador Program. Being an Ambassador means attending events like Open Mic Nights, arts workshops, exhibits, and concerts to create a positive environment, represent and promote the Arts Council, distribute MAC swag, and promote membership sales. Training is provided, and all Ambassadors will be paid for every membership they sell at the events they attend. MAC Coffeehouse looking for its next artist: 
Every other Monday for the next 6 months, we’ve got space for artists to showcase their work at Studio 89. MAC will have artists of different disciplines display their work and/or perform for 1-2 hours to entertain guests and promote MAC. We’re accepting painters, dancers, singers, and artists of all forms! Exhibitions will be starting mid-November, and run for 1-2 hours in the evening.
