An Evening With Ernie Paniccioli

May 17 @ 8:00 pm

Legendary Hip Hop photographer, Brother Ernie Paniccioli will be at the Living Arts Centre for one night only! Chronicler of the Hip Hop scene for decades, Brother Paniccioli will share personal stories and insights from his fascinating career that has captured the likes of Biggie Smalls, The Beastie Boys, Ice Cube and Public Enemy. The evening will include a Q & A session moderated by LiftiD of HipHopNrthrn. A dance cypher and emcee performance to follow the formal talk. The event is being offered Free of Charge as an extension of our Sauga’ Street Dance Summit event programming. As seating is limited, it will be offered on a first come basis.

In a career spanning over forty years, Ernest “Brother Ernie” Paniccioli has amassed what is arguably the largest photographic record of the golden age of hip-hop. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Brother Ernie picked up a camera in 1973 to photograph graffiti art, music, dance and streetwear in the city, and in due course shot nearly every rapper, DJ or group of note for much of the 1980s and 1990s. The principal photographer for magazines such as Word Up! and Rap Masters. A Native-American and First Nations activist, Brother Ernie holds the title of Supreme Minister of Culture for the Universal Zulu Nation, and regularly speaks at colleges and universities on issues affecting Indigenous peoples and other communities of colour.
