Social Settings: A Solo Exhibition of New Paintings by Tina Newlove

September 14, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Meet Tina, view her art and enjoy refreshments at the opening reception on
Saturday, September 14 from 12 – 4 PM.

Local award winning artist, Tina Newlove, is holding a solo exhibition of new oil paintings
at Towne Square Gallery, 94 George Street at Lakeshore, Oakville, Ontario, L6J 3B7
from September 14 through to October 5.

“The focus of this exhibition is on the overlap of rural and urban locations and with the interactions of people in social settings.

The themes relate to the intersection of work and family, alienation in modern society and the necessity of withdrawing into nature. I am interested in friends grouping together and grassroots movements.

At first glance, the viewer sees an abstract patterning of layered colour in the paintings. On closer inspection, there are small homes perched on the shoulders of figures, women concerned for their children and birds flying around the neighbourhood. Moments of rest in busy days.

The paintings tell stories of inclusion, safe spaces, fleeing and rehoming. Figures embedded in undulating landscapes navigate their way towards an uncertain future. Searching for home, is it in your heart, is it a place or is it present in the people you are with?”

After graduating from McMaster University (with Distinction) from the Honours Bachelor of Arts program in 1996, Tina has exhibited her work across Canada in public and commercial galleries and artist-run centres. Tina’s work is in the City of Toronto’s Permanent Collection and is part of the City of Hamilton’s Public Art Walk Project.
