TD Culture Lab – Explore Publishing is a 2-day virtual workshop that will engage local writers through informational webinars, panel discussions, and networking opportunities on the topic of publishing. Both self-publishing and traditional publishing will be explored and explained by knowledgeable individuals in the sector. These sessions will encourage participants to ask many questions, as this has been found to be a valuable part of the online learning experience for many.

Features panel discussions on both self and traditional publishing moderated by Elizabeth Banfalvi of Mississauga Writers Group and Mary Ellen Korosil of Courtney Park Writers’ Group. Learn important information about publishing from leading professionals in the sector.

10am-11:30am – Self Publishing Webinar

  • Led by Elizabeth Banfalvi (Mississauga Writers Group), this information session presents everything you need to know about self-publishing and allows writers to have all their questions about self-publishing answered.
  • Special guest: Belynda Wilson Thomas (self-published author of the book Secrets and Silence)

11:30am-12:30pm – Virtual Networking Lunch

  • A chance to meet and network with other authors and writers – including breakout rooms for additional discussion.

12:30pm-2pm – Traditional Publishing Webinar

  • Led by Mary Ellen Korosil (Courtney Park Writers’ Group), this informational webinar presents everything you need to know about Traditional forms of publishing and allows writers to have all their publishing questions answered.
  • Special guest: Pratap Reddy (published author of the books Weather Permitting and Other Stories and Ramaya’s Treasure).

1:30pm-3pm – Self Publishing Panel Discussion

  • This panel discussion will feature industry professionals with advice and resources for writers interested in self-publishing.
  • Moderator: Elizabeth Banfalvi (Mississauga Writers Group)
  • Panelists: Doug Mackie (PointOne Graphics Inc.), Belynda Wilson Thomas, (self-published author).

3:30pm-5pm – Traditional Publishing Panel Discussion

  • This panel discussion will feature industry professionals and publishers with advice and resources for writers interested in traditional publishing.
  • Moderator: Mary Ellen Koroscil (Courtney Park Writers’ Group)
  • Panelists: Bala Menon (Tamarind Tree Books), Michael Mirolla (Guernica Editions), Kathryn Lane (Dundurn Press).

About the presenters:

Courtney Park Writers’ Group

Established twelve years ago, the Courtney Park Writers’ Group currently has twenty four members. Their mandate is to inspire and offer creative support to our members, who write poetry, prose and novels. The group meets monthly on Zoom with special guests speakers and offers their members a platform to share their written work. The Courtney Park Writers’ Group traditionally publish three books per year.

Mississauga Writers Group

The Mississauga Writers Group was founded in 2013 and is over 100 members strong! Established to share experiences and pursue writing dreams through creativity, knowledge and mutual respect. The group learns from each others’ strengths and talents and enjoys stimulating conversations that only other writers can relate to! The Misssissauga Writers Group’s quarterly ezine and anthologies are an opportunity for members to have their works published.
