The Mississauga Arts Council is undergoing a shakeup with the executive director stepping down and changes to the board of directors.
Anu Vittal, who had been executive director of MAC since September 2014 after replacing Linda Thomas, recently resigned. Mike Douglas, a former editor and co-publisher of Spirit of the City magazine, has been named interim executive director.
“I feel blessed for the opportunity to create several new arts platforms in a short span of time – to market, support and connect artists with financially viable opportunities.” Vittal said in a release. “I will cherish this time at MAC as one of the great experiences of my life.”
Meanwhile, changes are also happening at the MAC board of directors. Brian Crombie, husband of Mayor Bonnie Crombie, is the new president after serving two terms as the board’s vice-president.
“The new team and I are excited to work together with Mississauga’s arts community to bring forward all of MAC’s new and ongoing initiatives,” said Crombie in a release. “We’re looking forward to ensuring the arts continue to thrive in our city.”
As well, Jeannette Chau is the board vice-president, Wojtek Jaskiewicz is secretary and Charles Chu is treasurer. Two new members have also been added to the board – Tajinder Oberoi and Sandra Maylor-Caesar.
