The MARTYS, also known as the Mississauga Arts Awards, have been recognizing excellence in the arts in Mississauga and celebrating outstanding works of creativity across all arts disciplines since 1994. This year’s awards gala took place at the Mississauga Convention Centre on May 23. Nominees are chosen based on criteria demonstrating excellence in their work. The Mississauga Arts Council also recognizes the contributions made to our thriving arts community through cultivating the arts.
Hosts Rob Tardik, a multi-award winning guitarist, and country music artist Alessia Cohle did double duty hosting and performing at the awards. Also performing during the evening were the Dreamboats, who won the 2018 Emerging Group MARTY Award; ABshek, an award-winning singer, songwriter, music composer and producer; Anjelica Scannura, a highly accomplished dancer, choreographer, adjudicator and actress; dance and music ensemble Ritmo Flamenco; and the Mason Victoria Trio, multi-instrumentalist jazz musicians.
