Lakeshore Mural Project
The Mississauga Arts Council, Peel Region and Stantec have embarked on a mission to provide prominent artistic opportunities to local artists.
This initiative was put forward by Councillor Stephen Dasko. “I was excited by the idea I put forward to the Region of Peel and Mississauga Arts Council. Over the next few years of construction taking place of the Lakeshore Trunk Sewer and Sub-transmission Main, we will have incredible local artists displaying their talents for everyone to enjoy!”

“Mino-nawae-indawaewin / Living in Harmony” – It is our responsibility to walk in balance on this earth. We are to show love and respect to all our co-tenants of creation. Our actions can influence all life that may dwell in the sky, land, water and underground realms. This mural represents the relationship we have to creation and how beautifully we are interwoven to this quilt that we call life on this planet.

Sauga City
📍 Richard’s Memorial Park

Artist Statement
Sauga City’s main artistic focus for the Richard’s Memorial Park mural was to showcase the local wildlife and changing seasons, while highlighting the beautiful red fox, native to the area. Each panel shows how the red fox’s coat changes over the seasons in Ontario.
Decorating the background and foreground are other local flora and fauna, including: the white-tailed deer, great horned owl, monarch butterfly, wild raspberry, echinacea, and the red maple.
Through this piece of art, Sauga City wanted to encourage the community to appreciate, respect and experience everything the local wildlife has to offer all year around.
Sauga City

About Sauga City
Sauga City is made up of two best friends (Shalue and Adam) who are professional artists and designers! Adam is a classically trained painter and calligrapher, now working as a seasoned tattoo artist. Shalue has completed her masters in business and runs her own graphic design studio, SBi Design, here in Mississauga. These two besties met while getting their Bachelors of Graphic Design at Humber College in Etobicoke. It was there that they originally conceptualized working on a comic together, and a few years later “Sauga City” was born.
Through their webcomic, they recommend local restaurants, businesses, outdoor areas, and events that are happening in the GTA, but especially, Mississauga. Sauga City felt art would be a great way to spread joy and colour, connect with the community, and showcase the incredible diversity found in their hometown.
Since starting in 2021, Shalue and Adam have created custom murals, posters, colouring books, activity sheets, and portraits for many local art appreciators and businesses. In 2024, they were nominated for a MARTY Award from the Mississauga Arts Council. When they’re not drawing, Shalue and Adam, along with their friends, are walking through local trails or hosting volunteer park clean ups.

I’m thrilled to share a heartfelt tribute to Port Credit, my favorite place in Mississauga. The 3 murals capture the vibrant spirit of this community, from the bustling coffee shops and lively music scenes to the serene beauty of the lighthouse and tranquil waters of Lake Ontario at sunset. They also celebrate the area’s rich biodiversity with vibrant flowers and native wildlife, inviting everyone to connect with nature. Each piece includes my signature character, Niña, and an inspiring quote, creating a personal and communal experience for all. Did you find Niña in each mural?

“Tributary” – Port Credit is a community whose beauty is both accentuated by its location on the shoreline of Lake Ontario, and its formation around the mouth of the Credit River which forms a tributary. This work not only captures the stunning landscapes of its natural features around the river from unique perspectives, but is also a tribute to the individuals who work so hard to preserve its history and champion others to explore the waters in Port Credit for many years to come.

All panels are photographs of mixed-media artworks in a variety of styles with 3D beadwork berry(s): woodland style, botanical paintings and sculptures. This curated selection highlights both modern and traditional art forms, cultural practices and Anishnaabe perspective.
The bears and the deer in the 4 woodland images carry stories of their clan attributes. The deer are giving and nourish the community while bears are protectors of the community, carrying knowledge of medicine. The three botanicals represent the traditional scientific knowledge of these plants held by the Anishinaabe people while the sculptures represent the ceremony surrounding berries and the joy of eating one.
