Indigenous Artists (All Disciplines)

Call for Indigenous Artists to join Roster

The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is committed to listening to the voices of Indigenous artists in meaningful ways that will allow your work to be properly and respectfully showcased and paid for. We’re looking to connect with professional and emerging Indigenous artists from all artistic disciplines, to create new Indigenous-led projects and commissions that celebrate Indigenous culture through stories, artwork, and music.

Current arts collaborations include a wide variety of stimulating creative entertainment and exhibition efforts, connecting creative professionals to new audiences and clients. MAC values any input that ensures that every collaboration is inclusive of the special works we wish to present.

Murals with MAC – Call for Artists

Call for BIPOC Muralists

Murals with MAC program has its first indoor commission with Peel CAS to build
upon and wish to receive replies from BIPOC artists to submit a CALL TO
ARTISTS – Expression of Interest (EOI). The murals will be part of Peel CAS’s Youth
Lounge. Peel Children’s Aid Society strives to ensure the safety and well-being of the
community’s most vulnerable with a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. Murals with
MAC is dedicated to creating opportunities for artists to shape vibrant and inclusive
communities in meaningful ways.

The application requests the following: 

  • Artist(s) CV 
  • Up to 5 images of past work, all supported by a written list of artist’s name, title of work, medium, dimensions, location and date

MAC Arts Cafe – Online Open Mic

Call for Performers

Stay tuned for December’s Call for Performers!

Reaching over 23,900 people with over 7,200 views across Facebook & YouTube, our MAC Arts Cafe – Online Open Mic’s, hosted by award-winning singer/songwriter, Heather Christine have been very successful. Since July 2020, our monthly MAC Arts Cafe – Online Open Mics, have been a great opportunity for performers to showcase their talents during the COVID-19 pandemic. MAC Arts Cafe features emerging and established Mississauga talents including singers, musicians, spoken word artists, poets, and more.

Call for Visual Artists to join Artist Roster

Murals with MAC is a neighbourhood beautification project that is redefining traditional approaches to public art and provide paid opportunities for local artists. Whether it is a painted wall or a vinyl wrap, a printed panel, or decorated picnic tables, a bold banner or beautiful utility box, there are so many bold ways to transform public spaces.

Apply now to join our robust Artist Roster of Muralists and Utility Box Designers (paint and/or digital wraps). We are currently seeking visual artists to paint Bell Boxes, but encourage applications for all mediums.

Work with MAC – Video Editor (Freelance/Contractor)

Call for video editors – MULTIPLE Positions available ($2000-$4500)

PROJECT 1: Arts for Mental Health Conference Video Editor ($4500 est) – MAC is seeking a video editor to produce multiple video segments from the 4 hour ZOOM recording of our Arts for Mental Health Conference. Working closely with MAC, the video editor will add lower thirds, cut long pauses, add title cards and logos/graphics, and enhance sound and polish as needed. Multiple Videos requested. PROJECT 2: Documentary for MAC’s 40th Anniversary Video Editor ($3000-$4000) – MAC is seeking a video editor to edit and assemble recorded material into a 40-minute documentary video. Working closely with MAC and documentary producer Ron Duquette, you will follow the script and shot list to assemble the footage and perform requested edits to produce the final documentary video. PROJECT 3: Arts for Mental Health Doctor Dinner Video Editor ($2000) – Mississauga Arts Council and Mass Culture brought together leading health care practitioners to discuss the possibility of a social prescription pilot program in Peel Region. Working closely with MAC, the video editor will add lower thirds, cut pauses, and add title cards and logos/graphics as needed to the ZOOM recording of this meeting. Multiple videos requested. Work with MAC – Videographer (Freelance/Contractor)

Call for videographer ($2500-$3000)

To celebrate MAC’s milestone 40th Anniversary, we are commissioning a 40-minute documentary produced by Ron Duquette to celebrate our accomplishments and capture our story from the leaders and community members of MAC.

About the Videographer Position: MAC is seeking a videographer to capture live interview footage, b-roll, and voice-over footage. The videographer will work closely with MAC and producer Ron Duquette. Shot lists will be created when revising the first draft of the documentary script. The contract will begin on November 12, 2021, and be completed by Friday, January 28, 2022, by 5:00 PM (TBC).

Work with MAC – Researcher/Writer (Freelance/Contractor)

Call for researcher/writer ($2500-$3000)

To celebrate MAC’s milestone 40th Anniversary, we are commissioning a 40-minute documentary produced by Ron Duquette to celebrate our accomplishments and capture our story from the leaders and community members of MAC.

About the Researcher/Writer Position: MAC is seeking a researcher/writer of documentaries or nonfiction, to pilot a history project highlighting the most significant turning points and achievements of the Mississauga Arts Council. The researcher/writer will have 2 key responsibilities. First, to perform research with the assistance of MAC to identify key personnel to interview, and research MAC’s archives for written documents and images that will help tell MAC’s story. Second, to develop a first draft of the documentary script.

MAC Funded Fusion MicroGrant: Part Two

Call for Visual/Digital Artists, Illustrators, or Animators

Deadline: This Call is Now Closed. Stay tuned for the animated music video for Part One MicroGrant winner Mauve’s track, Another Life!

Part Two of our MAC Funded Fusion MicroGrant seeks visual artists, illustrators, or digital artists to create an animated music video for the winning song of Part One, Another Life by Mauve. Interested artists are invited to submit their proposal to MAC before the deadline, Monday, August 23, 2021. The top three artists will be contacted to meet with MAC and Mauve. After the interviews are concluded, the winner will be selected to create the animated music video.

The winning artist will receive $4,000 to produce the animated music video for the winning song. The artist will be given appropriate credit and free use of the video for promotional purposes.

Sauga’s Summer Songwriting Contest

Call for Musicians/Music Groups (Pop, Hip Hop, Country, Rock, and R&B)

Tune in to the Mississauga Music Awards on Saturday, September 25 for the winner announcement!

Mississauga musicians, submit your demo for a chance to win a recording session at Metalworks Studios. A jury will determine “Sauga’s Song of the Summer” and the winner will be announced at the Mississauga Music Awards on Saturday, September 25th, 2021. The contest is sponsored by MAC and Metalworks Studios with media partner Mississauga Music.

Amphitheatre Unplugged

Call for Live Performers

Brought to you through a partnership between Mississauga Arts Council and Mississauga Celebration Square, Amphitheatre Unplugged is Mississauga’s Outdoor Open Mic. Featuring emerging and established Mississauga talent including singers, musicians, dancers, spoken word artists, poets, comedians and more performing for thousands of spectators.

Artists Online: Transitioning to Digital Marketing

Call for Professional Mississauga Artists in all artistic disciplines

This program enables artists to develop their professional stories through engaging artist introduction videos. Participants will learn scriptwriting and film basics through masterclasses, and will write and direct their own artist introduction videos to be premiered on Martys HUB in fall 2021. Applications are now open!
