Introducing New Micro Grants for Dance & Visual Arts

The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is inviting local artists to apply for the 2020 Micro Grants for Dance & Visual Arts.

2020 Micro Grants have been delayed until MAC could assess the appropriate response to challenges faced by the impact of COVID-19 on the arts communities and their ability to do their works.

The goal this year is to apply two criteria to each grant: develop public awareness and assist in career development.

Grants are available to individual artists and unregistered groups/collectives living in or based in Mississauga.

Each project has its own completion date and will incorporate a free public experience.

To learn more about each funding opportunity, as well as Eligibility and Judging Criteria please see the Guidelines.

Categories for funding

Dancers, dance groups and choreographers, what would your next dance look like – as a movie?

The Mississauga Arts Council wants you to apply for a dance video production, using techniques like editing, lighting, composition, colour, music, wardrobe/costume and of course dance – to tell an intriguing, engaging, entertaining story.

We would then schedule and promote the video’s release online via MAC’s Facebook and YouTube pages and on your own social media channels.

The piece(s) must be at least 20 minutes long and involve at least 4 dancers.

Funding available: 1 winning group, total $4,000

Deadline for application: Friday, September 4, 2020, at 11:59 PM.

Deadline for completed project: Thursday, November 5, 2020

Deadline for project report: One month after project completion.

What do fizzy cocktails, fresh strawberries and fine art have in common?

Answer – they are all to be found Saturday, October 3rd from 2-7 PM at the first Mississauga Invitational Fine Arts Show and Sale.

This is a LIVE in-person event, featuring a winding spacious path through artists’ exhibits in the sparkling Luxe Ballroom at the newly opened Hyatt Place Hotel on Hurontario south of Britannia. COVID-19 government public health measures will be in place.

Visitors will be scheduled using Eventbrite invitations through the Mississauga Arts Council.

If you are a professional painter or other visual artist based in Mississauga, please apply by sending photos of 2 works and a 50-word bio with a picture of yourself to member@mississaugaartscouncil.com. This show will be juried for the top 24 entrants and more if spacing allows.

Selected artists will be sent spatial specifications and are expected to bring their own racks, a $100 honorarium will be given to each artist showing and additional information on safety practices will be shared closer to the show date.

Funding available: Minimum 24 winning artists, $100 honorarium each.

Deadline for application: Friday, September 4, 2020, at 11:59 PM.

Date of event: Saturday, October 3, 2020, from 2-7 PM  TBC

Deadline for project report: One month after project completion.
