Project: El Gigante Egoísta / The Selfish Giant
Raul Pinto-Gallegos used his Fall 2024 Matchmaker MicroGrant to support a new run of El Gigante Egoista, his bilingual musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Selfish Giant.
The cast and crew, all immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries, volunteered their efforts between their regular jobs since 2022 to bring the show to life. With the help of a MAC MicroGrant, Raul and his team were able to refine the play, support the contributions of their collaborators, and focus more intently on rehearsals and production for their debut at Peel Art Gallery, Museum & Archives (PAMA) in Brampton during March Break 2025.
The performance, offered for free at PAMA, welcomed a diverse audience of families. Children were laughing along, fully engaged in the story, and the show was applauded not only for its quality, but also its affordability.
