Artist Statement

“I have painted local plants and animals that we can see in the Rattray Marsh.  The Blue Heron, The Fox, The Turtle and The Beaver are some of the animals who reside in this area.  The marsh area invites growth of various plants and the water creates homes and shelter for the water creatures. The beavers’ dams help enhance the protection of some of the fish species. To me, there are so many vibrant colours in nature that I hoped to capture in these paintings.” – Lynn Taylor

The Rattray Marsh is located in Jack Darling Memorial Park.

About Lynn Taylor

Lynn Taylor was born and raised in Toronto, and has resided in Lakeview and Mississauga for over 25 years. Her Indigenous heritage and culture stems from her mother and is a member of the Oneida Nation of The Thames reserve in Ontario (Turtle Clan). Her love for painting began during her childhood. Lynn’s creative abilities began to emerge when she, as a young adult, won government-sponsored poster design competitions 3 years in a row. Lynn studied at Sheridan College in a Fine Arts program. She continually strives to hone her skills and techniques as an artist through various on-going workshops and private lessons. She has traveled through Europe and other countries to see the world from different viewpoints. However, her deep appreciation of nature and her growing knowledge of her indigenous background are her biggest influences. She is predominantly a self-taught artist and likes to work with varied subject matters and using a variety of mediums.
