MAC is looking for Arts Supporters who live or work in Mississauga to join our Board of Directors.

Eligibility: Must Live or Work in Mississauga (Mandatory)
Term: 2-Year Term (Renewable up to 5 two-year terms)^
Time Commitment: Minimum 6 hours per month
Meeting Format: In-Person (Hybrid option available)
Start Date: Fall 2026

*Note: This is an unpaid volunteer position in accordance with non-profit governance standards. Board members are ineligible for paid contracts or grants from MAC during their tenure.
^Note: Board members are required to purchase and maintain an active MAC membership throughout their term.
About the Mississauga Arts Council (MAC)
The Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is a 45 year old registered charity independent of the City of Mississauga and dedicated to enabling the growth of the arts by creating more opportunities to work and greater connection between artists and residents. MAC has just moved to a larger location on Lake Ontario and has a staff of 7 and a budget of $1.3 million.
We empower the local arts economy by:
– Creating capacity and professional opportunities for creators across all disciplines.
– Connecting artists to new audiences, resources, and each other through platforms like the Sauga Arts Hub.
– Celebrating artistic achievement across visual arts, music, dance, theatre, literary arts, media arts, and interdisciplinary practices.

Key Responsibilities
Board Members are volunteers who act as stewards of MAC’s mission, providing strategic oversight, governance, and enthusiastic advocacy.
– Strategic & Governance Leadership: Oversee the council’s strategic direction, policy direction, and fiscal health.
– Community Advocacy: Act as an ambassador for MAC, building strategic partnerships and expanding public awareness of our work.
– Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Embed EDI principles across all governance practices, board interactions, and community outreach.
– Active Board Engagement: Participate in monthly board meetings (90–120 minutes; hybrid format, in-person encouraged in Mississauga) and serve on at least one standing sub-committee (e.g., Governance, Finance, Fundraising, or Advocacy).
Candidate Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Mandatory Requirements:
– Local Connection: Candidates MUST live or work in Mississauga.
– Ontario Legal Requirements: the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act of 2010 requires that board members must be – a legal person who is over the age of 18, who has not been bankrupt, is legally capable of managing property.
– Volunteer Commitment: Candidates must be willing to commit a minimum of 4 volunteer hours per month.

– Non-Profit Governance & Executive Leadership (Prior board officer or committee chair experience is an asset)
– Fundraising, Philanthropy, Corporate Sponsorship & Major Gifts

– Government Relations, Public Policy & Community Advocacy
– Human Resources, Law, Financial Oversight, or Risk Management
– Marketing, Public Relations & Communications
