Project: The Long Way Home (Film)
Gordon Culley used his Matchmaker MicroGrant to create his new film, The Long Way Home. The film explores the story of a young Vietnamese woman who is dealing with a gambling addiction, she takes the long way home at the suggestion of her Uber driver, a recovering gambling addict who shares his thoughts on the subject with her. There is hope when there is love. Deciding to animate the film allowed Gordon to create a dreamy and unique world of Mississauga – and realize his artistic vision.
“I was originally going to make this a live action production but I feel that in order to create a ‘unique voice’ in media when hundreds of hours are uploaded every second that trying something different can be a reward. I took it upon myself to learn Unreal Engine 5.6 which is software used to make games and High End VFX for movies and TV. I realized that i could play all of the roles, set the story anywhere and use cool things like areal shots and the driver using a Rolls Royce!”
