Salary/Hours*: $20.00 an hour (Commensurate with experience)
Office Hours: 35 hours a week (Monday to Friday, 9 AM – 5 PM). MAC’s staff have a hybrid schedule and work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Location: MAC’s office is located in Mississauga City Hall, 300 City Centre Dr Suite 1055, Mississauga, ON, L5B 3C9
Candidates are required to use their own computer or laptop for the duration of the role.
Eligibility:
This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, the successful applicant must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Junior Front End Web Developer to enhance the Mississauga Arts Council website’s performance, design, and user experience. This role requires expertise in WordPress website design, front-end and back-end development, minor UX/UI improvements, content optimization, and web accessibility best-practices. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background and a creative mindset, ensuring a seamless and engaging digital experience for our users.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Administration Lead, the ideal candidate will be responsible for the following:
Website Design & UX/UI Improvements
- Evaluate and improve website layout, visual designs, and user interface to enhance usability and accessibility
- Collaborate with Multimedia Designer to align aesthetics with brand guidelines.
Content Optimization
- Revise and update website copywriting for clarity, SEO, and user engagement with assistance from the Communications Manager as needed.
- Ensure website images include descriptive alt text.
Performance Monitoring & Enhancement
- Analyze site performance metrics and user behaviour using tools like Google Analytics.
- Identify bottlenecks, offer and implement solutions to improve load times and overall performance.
Front-End & Back-End Development
- Update and optimize front-end code for better responsiveness and performance.
- Debug and maintain back-end systems to ensure website stability and functionality.
- Integrate APIs/AI and other third-party services as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience managing and developing websites using WordPress (or similar content management systems)
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and modern frameworks basics
- Strong understanding of back-end technologies and database management.
- Solid knowledge of SEO best practices and tools (e.g., Yoast SEO, Google Search Console).
- Familiarity with web analytics and performance optimization tools (e.g., Google Analytics).
Assets
- Post-secondary education in web development or a similar field.
- Experience in UX/UI design principles and tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch)
- Knowledge of AODA compliance for digital environments.
Key Skills

- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
