Project: Veena Jazz Odyssey
Award winning performer and composer, Radhika Baskar, seamlessly blends traditional Carnatic music with western jazz highlighting the similarities between these two highly improvised forms of music. With her MAC Matchmaker MicroGrant, she continued her exploration of these two styles recording and creating music videos for a new original composition called Leap of Faith and the Dave Brubeck jazz standard, Take Five.
“Veena Jazz Odyssey was an ambitious audiovisual exploration reimagining Jazz music on the veena, fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation. Through this project, I discovered my ability to take on challenges and complete them within a defined timeframe. Composing a jazz tune was an exciting and fulfilling experience, allowing me to explore creativity in new ways. Collaborating with musicians provided valuable insights into teamwork, communication, and the creative process. This project taught me the importance of planning, persistence, and openness to feedback, all of which have strengthened my confidence and skills as a music professional.”
