Project: The Tumblers
Theatre student Max Kingsbury used their Matchmaker MicroGrant to produce The Tumblers, an original play by local theatre students that follows a group of former reality TV stars reuniting for the first time since a tragic event. Despite setbacks, including losing their rehearsal space and needing to recast four out of five actors, the team successfully pivoted. The Tumblers premiered at a matinee for local high school students and publicly at Sampradaya Dance Creations to a total of 160 attendees.
The project paid 11 student artists, and was a hands-on learning experience in producing a professional theatre show, including refining their material, booking spaces, insurance, and marketing.
“The project allowed me to make a name for myself in this community, network with SAWITRI regulars and other Mississauga artists, and showed the family members of each cast member that this is more than a hobby: this art form is a dream worth pursuing.”
