Project: JD Era & Friends
Hip-hop artist JD Era used his Music Showcase Production MicroGrant to produce JD Era & Friends, a concert showcase honouring Mississauga’s rich hip-hop legacy. While originally slated for Fall 2023, the project faced real-world setbacks, including a lack of local venues and scheduling conflicts, which pushed the date back and forced the team to restructure. In response to this, JD Era rebranded the event and successfully secured The Rec Room at Square One, bringing the highly anticipated showcase to life on June 6, 2026, with a powerhouse lineup of local legends including himself, Rich Kidd, Shi Wisdom, Choclair, and more.
The high-energy event drew nearly 100 attendees, bringing together artists who hadn’t shared a stage in years for a cross-generational celebration of community and culture. By adopting a “Pay What You Want” ticketing model at the door, the showcase remained accessible. In total, the showcase paid seven local artists. JD Era & Friends proved that the city’s hip-hop scene is alive, thriving, and deeply united.
