Mississauga Arts Council set to unveil three large-scale murals at Indwell Lakeshore Lofts by local visual artist David Anthony

Mississauga, ON – August 2, 2022

Mississauga Arts Council (MAC) is excited to announce the official unveiling of the Indwell Lakeshore Lofts Mural Project (425 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga). Created by local visual artist David Anthony, these are three brand-new large scale murals, with the largest reaching 400 square feet, located just down the street from vibrant downtown Port Credit on the exterior of Indwell Lakeshore Lofts.

“Indwell’s Lakeshore Lofts community has been so warmly welcomed in Port Credit,” says Daphne Prinzen, Director of Regional Expansion, Indwell. “We’re all excited to contribute back by hosting these vibrant murals.”

“I was so pleased to be working with MAC, Port Credit BIA, Port Credit Community Foundation and Indwell Lakeshore Lofts on this creative initiative to enhance our neighbourhood,” says Stephen Dasko, City Councillor, Ward 1, “Local artists were encouraged to submit their works and they were all exceptional.”

The unveiling will take place on Friday, August 5th, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM (weather permitting) at Indwell Lakeshore Lofts (425 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga). Media are invited to attend to hear from the artist David Anthony, hear remarks from VIPs: John Schuurman (Indwell), Stephen Dasko (City Councillor, Ward 1), Mike Douglas (MAC), and Karen Priest (Port Credit Community Foundation) for an intimate gathering.

“As Port Credit grows, this public art tells the Port Credit story.” says Karen Priest, Director, Port Credit Community Foundation, “These murals enhance the community by cultivating a cultural identity. It celebrates the diversity of life through art.”

David Anthony’s inspiration for these three murals came from the rich history and talents that are native to the Port Credit community. His first piece, On the Dock of the Bay showcases a family dining by the harbour front with native birds such as the Clark’s Grebe Canadian Goose and swan. His second piece, The Bay Sundown depicts local anglers catching salmon that inhabit Port Credit. His third, and largest piece, Song and Dance, pays tribute to the lively musical talents and nightlife of the community. His three murals were influenced by the blue, gray and white hues found on the new Indwell Lakeshore Lofts.

“This mural is another enriching addition to the many public artworks being added to our city this year through our Murals with MAC program,” says Jacqueline Mak, MAC’s Creative Director & Strategist, “This dynamic mural was carefully crafted to resonate with the Port Credit community, celebrating the culture of this vibrant neighborhood. We hope the community will enjoy these murals for many years to come.”

Media are invited to attend this exciting reveal on Friday, August 5, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM (weather permitting) at Indwell Lakeshore Lofts (425 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga).
