“Pastel’s Imaginarium brought joy and an element of the unexpected to our various audiences and locations.”

Andrew Gaboury

Performer, writer and educator Andrew Gaboury used his MAC Theatre in the Park MicroGrant to fund “Pastel’s Imaginarium” – a travelling theatre and curiosity collection that toured in the summer of 2023. They performed across the GTA, including Streetsville & Port Credit in Mississauga, Dufferin Grove Park in Toronto and the Guild Park & Gardens in Scarborough. It featured 13 performers and a mobile set, the Imaginarium.

The dynamic trio Pastel, Bebung and Snippet, explored local parks and festivals through humour, music and non-verbal storytelling. Pastel’s Imaginarium drew techniques from clown, mime, dance and puppetry to create a site-specific spectacle for audiences of all ages. With the help of a Theatre in the Park MAC Microgrant, the cast of 13 received payment for their work and time throughout the mini-tour.

A field of crowns is an online platform in which Andrew Gaboury collects and showcases his creative projects including Pastel’s Imaginarium. As mentioned online, the projects focus on collaborative development and facilitation of new multi-disciplinary performances and community interventions through a physical lens.

“As a performer, he employs techniques from theatrical clown, collective creation, dance, puppetry and community arts. As a writer, Andrew has explored a variety of mediums, including playscript, poetry, and most recently a video game. Andrew is also a company member with dance-theatre company Frog In Hand.” – A field of crowns web
