MicroGrant Success: Matthew Sabido, Fall 2025

A group of four people sitting behind a table, playfully posing with exaggerated expressions. The person on the left is making a funny face, while the person on the right in a cowboy hat mimics a monster claw with his hand over another person's head.

Project: Table Stage

Theatre artist Matthew Sabido used his Matchmaker MicroGrant to produce Table Stage, an immersive arts project that spanned three genre-bending shows at the Fiesta Filipina Centre for the Arts, combining live theatre with table-top role-playing games.

Staged throughout 2025, Table Stage engaged 50 attendees and paid five local Mississauga artists using an accessible Pay-What-You-Can model. Through creative digital set designs and community collaborations with organizations, the series successfully offered a welcoming space for creative, interactive storytelling for new and experienced players alike.

“Table Stage executed its goal of being a community performance initiative that looks to offer an affordable, accessible, consistent, and inclusive space to not only watch an improvised show, but to also be encouraged to participate and be an active creator no matter one’s experience.”
