MicroGrant Success: Archy Jay, Fall 2024

A woman with long wavy hair and bold makeup poses outdoors on a brick street. She wears a black fishnet top crossed with pink "WARNING" tape, holds the chanter of a bagpipe decorated with a small dragon head, and yellow text to the right reads "CELTIC-INDIAN PARTY."

Project: Restless Dreamer

Bagpiper Archy Jay used her Matchmaker MicroGrant to create a music video for Restless Dreamer, a Celtic-Indian and EDM fusion take on the traditional sea shanty, Drunken Sailor. This cross-cultural collaboration brought together the music and art forms of Scotland and India, connecting seven total artists and providing paid opportunities for two Mississauga creators.

The high-energy music video amassed 2.5 million total views across platforms. By blending distinctly different musical traditions into a cohesive track, the project offered an innovative piece of art, giving viewers a sense of representation, proving how music can bridge diverse cultures.

“I made new connections whilst working on this project… It definitely helped me grow into understanding the aspects of managing crew, artists and to market a music video successfully. It gave the community a sense of unity and togetherness. It brought together people from different cultures who felt represented.”
